I seem to be spending most of my time this year answering basic social media questions for companies and entrepreneurs. And although they each have a unique problem and need a particular solution, many of the issues involved stem from fundamental questions like what is social media, how can I use it and how can I make it work for my business?
There is no single all-encompassing answer I can give to all of these but there are guidelines which can inform the entire social media approach a business can take. One of these guidelines has to do with narrative. I am going to say here that social media allows us to create just such a narrative and that it works because we, as recipients, are narrative driven, but let’s backtrack one moment and examine what was in place before social media came along.
