Business is a tough environment. You have to juggle many facts which themselves frequently make little sense, in order to second-guess what’s really happening. The competition sometimes can seem ruthless, adversarial customers can become the enemy and those who are in front-of-house activities are frequently referred to as being in the front line.
I totally get that the pressures we frequently face when in business can feel extreme. I understand that there is a need to encourage staff and colleagues with battle talk, that team building and a sense of camaraderie are easier to foster if we have what I call “The Bunker Mentality” where we all huddle together within our business environment and demonize everyone outside it. But I also know that business is not war. I know that no one gets injured or killed doing their work. There is no life or death situation to consider. And that irrespective of how pressured a business environment can get any mistake we make in business is unlikely to cost our lives.
