Every company I have happened to come in contact with over a twenty year career has sworn blind to me that its most important asset is its people. If we take those companies as a cross-section of what exists in the business world we then have to assume that every company out there shares the exact same belief: people are its most prized asset.

Yet, this leads us to a paradox. If people are truly the most prized asset of a business, why do we then find that at the first sign of an economic downturn we see downsizing. Why is firing staff the first cost-cutting step most businesses consider? Why are there firings of employees for relatively minor infractions just to set an example? Why are employees the first ones to suffer when a business is not doing well and the last ones to find out when it is doing great? Why is happiness at work, an optional extra?

In this Online Marketing Help podcast we look at just how putting people first can really help your business improve its productivity and problem solving capacity. Best-selling SEO and Social Media Marketing author, David Amerland, explains.
