Last week I was privy to a conversation between businessmen which sparked off this week’s podcast. They were discussing different internal communication processes in their respective businesses and one turned and said to the other that when it came to client communications his staff copied him in on every email they sent out.
I am not going to get too deep here into the level of top-down control shown by this real-life example nor the apparent lack of trust shown towards staff that it screams out because it would be a little unfair. The business in question is a typical example of a traditional business which has adopted technology without making the necessary adjustments in attitude. As a result it now finds itself dropping in productivity and losing market share without really knowing why or what it should do next.
