The CEO sends the memo round. “Great job!” Product X (a film in this case) is ‘Da Bomb’ “awesome work team”, except, of course, this is not the case. Reviewers are not happy. More importantly social media is full of negative comments and valid observations. The world is now transparent.
Until we get to the stage where the people at the top are prepared to be open and honest with the people below them, we shall have that disconnect where the leader’s perceived role of ‘rallying the troops’ and boosting morale, devolves into a pack of obvious untruths that devalue every relationship within the organization.
A pay-grade, quite rightly, is a measure of the value an organization places on a job position. It should not be the measure of a person’s worth. Until we start treating everyone like they matter we will never benefit from the full potential of what they have to offer.
The world is changing. Not overnight and not all at once, but it is changing nevertheless. In my talks to corporate groups, CEOs, VPs and industry leaders I gleam insights of how this change is happening. What evidence exists. Why some things happen and not others and how we can best take advantage of it all to do better. In Observations I catalogue it all. Brief, to the point and open to discussion.
